This Hebrew grammar, written by a non-Jew, was based on the grammar of Dr. Jonas Horwitz of Chillicothe, Ohio (see p. 2). On p. 3 we have a preface by Dr. Jonas Horwitz. Again on p. 76, “The foregoing concise Hebrew Grammar…is a full and faithful transcript from a small work, in manuscript, taught by Dr. Jonas Horwitz, a learned Jew.” It has not been possible to determine more detail concerning this American-Jewish 19th-century Hebrew scholar.
