USE FOR ANOTHER TIME: Italian Christian Hebraist Giovanni Bernardo de Rossi (1742-1831), Professor of Oriental Languages at the University of Parma, excelled in three fields: typography, bibliography and Biblical textual variants. De Rossi did pioneer work on Hebrew typography, producing in this regard two significant contributions: Annales Hebraeo-Typographici (Parma, 1795) and Annales Hebraeo-Typographici ab 1501 ad 1540 (Parma 1799). He published two bibliographies, one of the manuscripts in his collection (Parma, 1803), the other of the books he owned (Parma, 1812). And finally, he was knighted for his collection of variants of the Hebrew text of the Old Testament. See JE, Vol. X, p. 486
