FIRST EDITION. WIDE MARGINED COPY PRINTED ON BLUE PAPER. Inscribed on title to “My teacher the great light,” R. Chaim Alphandari from Meshulam Feivush Aschkenazi , 1729. R. Alphandari, author of Esh Dat, was one of the great scholars of Turkey, he was later accused of being a secret Sabbatean ff. (3),74,19,(1),9. Foxed in places, scattered marginal worming on last few leaves, repaired, marginalia. Contemporary morocco, gilt-ruled with gilt-tooled central cartouche and floral corner embellishments, rubbed, remnants of clasps and hinges, rebacked. Folio Vinograd, Amsterdam 814. Born in Livorno, the author immigrated to Jerusalem prior to 1679 were he studied under Moses Galante. In his Pri Chadash, da Silva aimed at nullifying the ultimate authority of the Shulchan Aruch elucidate the halachah as conforming to his more lenient approach. Initially, the effrontery of da Silva’sconjectures were found to be objectionable although in time many leading halachists accepting his rulings, and were frequently quoted by Jonathan Eybeschuetz in his Krethi U’Plethi and Joseph Teomim in his Pri Megadim
