ELEGANT PRESENTATION COPY. Inscribed by the Author’s son, Aryeh Leib Lowenstamm of Rotterdam, as a Bar Mitzva gift to his student Chaim van Aalten. Appended to this unique copy are twelve unnumbered leaves, with autograph manuscript Hebrew inscription and dedicatory 60-stanza poem featuring the acrostic: “Aryeh Leib ben Ha’rav Ha’gaon MHR”R Chaim Ish Lowenstamm Ba’al Ha’mechaber Sepher Derech Chaim ZT”L.” Author was the son of Aryeh Leib ben Chaim Breslau, author of the volume of responsa Penei Aryeh (Amsterdam, 1790) The family thereafter adopted the name Lowenstamm (“descendant of the lion”) a reference to the patriach’s name, Aryeh Leib.
