An Important Early Spanish Manuscript of the RI”F. The RI”F is the most important halachic compendium prior to the Yad Ha’Chazakah of the Rambam. The work remains a vital and widely admired code. It influenced not only Maimonides, but pervades all halachic literature until modern times. R. Joseph Karo regarded Alfasi’s scholarship with utmost respect and determined the laws in his Shulchan Aruch upon his authority. The present manuscript contains variances from the published version, some emendations by the Bach (R. Joel Sirkes) and the published Hagahoth Me’Alfas Yashan conform to the text of this manuscript. In some instances this manuscript makes important additions. According to Professor Shlomo Zucker of Jerusalem, the codicological and paleographical features of the manuscript indicate that it was written in the years between 1230-1280.
