First edition of Spinoza’s posthumous works, published in the year of his death and edited by his friends Meijer, Jelles and Schuller. Neither author, nor place, nor editor is recorded. This was no superfluous precaution for in 1678 the work was bannned by the States of Holland for blasphemy. The particular portrait of Spinoza not among those found in Rubens (cf. 2302-18)
