An Exceptionally Rare Festival Prayer-Book Issued by Bomberg’s Press. No Complete Copy Extant. Jnul and Bodleian Copies Incomplete. Prayers according to the esoteric Greek Romanian (Romaniot) rite. Not to be confused with Rumania, but a rite stemming from the Byzantine Empire, first issued in Constantinople in 1510. The present Machzor represents the second printed appearance of this rite. The third was not for another fifty years (Constantinople, 1573-6), whereafter its usage became superseded by the Sephardi rite and Romaniot fell into disuse. The present Machzor includes an extensive presentation of the laws and customs of the Romanian Community, which was closely related to the practices of Eretz Israel.
