In 1665-66 when Shabthai Tzvi was declared the Messiah, his prophet Nathan of Gaza distributed special Kabbalistic prayers upon the advent of the Messianic age. The majority of these messianic prayer-books were printed by Tartas, who, like so many Amsterdam Jews, was a staunch believer in the pseudo-Messiah. Most copies of these texts are rare, having been destroyed following the conversion to Islam of the fallen Messiah
