Author of Mashmia Shalom, R. Shimon Sholom Kalish was the son of R. Menachem Kalisch (1860-1918), the second Rebbe of Amshinov (Mszczonów, Poland) and the successor Admo’r in Otwock, following his father’s death in 1918. The Amshinover was a significant driving force behind the escape of thousands of Yeshiva students to Shanghai from Mir, Kletsk, Radin, Novhardok, and other yeshivas, following Nazi occupation of Poland and elsewhere.
