From: Thomas Stackhouse, ‘A New History of the Holy Bible, From the Beginning of the World to the Establishment of Christianity’, Vol. II (London, 1742), p. 1,068. A depiction the Raising of the Torah to the Congregation with men, women and children in attendance. The appearance of the scrolls, which are ‘wrapt up in embroider’d linnen’ suggests that the congregation depicted is Sephardic.
