Commissioned by the Central Command of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chaplaincy, following the Yom Kippur War of 1973, this is a collection of articles by Rabbinic authorities, concerning the Halachic perspective of military conduct. The volume gave rise to intense controversy due to an article by the Chief Chaplain of the Central Command, Lt. Col. Rabbi Avraham Avidan entitled “Purity of Arms According to Halacha” (pp. 25-31). Avidan determined that Arab civilians may be subject to severe physical pressure if there is a suspicion they were in possession of knowledge that could result in imminent physical danger to Israelis. Ultimately, Avidan concludes, “no Arab can be trusted” (p. 31). The article met with considerable criticism in the Knesset and Israeli press, and as a result, the entire print-run of this book was destroyed before distribution. <<No copies listed on WorldCat.>> There are no recorded copies in Israel public collections, including the NLI.
