The Italian racial laws (“Leggi Razziali”) were promulgated by Fascist Italy from 1938 to 1943 in order to enforce racial discrimination against Jews. The first and most comprehensive of the Leggi Razziali was the present Regio Decreto 17 Novembre 1938 Nr. 1728. Which gave a legal definition of what constituted being a member of the “Jewish race.” These laws banned marital unions between Italians and other races, dramatically restricted the civil rights of Jews, excluded them from public office and higher education and banning the publication of their literature.
