Published four years after the controversy began, the work is an effort on the part of R. Yonasan Eybescheutz to defend himself from the accusations of Sabbateanism leveled against him by R. Ya’akov Emden. In addition to his own defense, the work also contains letters of support from rabbis across Europe - including the Gaon of Vilna (see f. 71v).
