A Chosid of Chabad, R. Shmuel Eliyahu Elkin (1876-1961) was appointed Rov of ‘Bichov Yashan’ (now Bykhaw, Belarus) in 1901 and went on to hold a number of rabbinic positions in the United States, and, in his later years, Eretz Israel.
