The author (c.1774-c.1842), a most colorful character and native of Morocco, studied in Sale under Rabbi Judah Anhori. However due to unstable conditions in his native land, Edrehi migrated to London, then removed himself to Amsterdam, before resettling in Jerusalem - after undergoing a most harrowing journey that lasted four years. See EJ, Vol. VI, cols. 380-81. The present work claims to rely on a letter that arrived in Jerusalem in 1647 from beyond the Sambatyon River, providing testimony of the Lost Tribes’ welfare.
