Succeeded his father R. Shmuel Levi Weinberger (1860-1925) as Av Beth Din, who was the son-in-law of R. Hillel Lichtenstein of Kolomea (1814-91). It was here, in Dunaszerdahely, that the great Posek R. Yehuda Aszod presided. The town changed sovereignty from Hungary to Czechoslovakia after WWI, but reverted to Hungary in 1938, a fact that would delay the arrival of the Nazis to the locale by a few years. Today it is in the border of Slovakia.
