Rabbi Levin was the mashgiach of Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer’s yeshiva Etz Chaim in Jerusalem. He wass renowned as one who ministered with great compassion to those on the fringes of society. Rabbi Shapiro was the son of R. Raphael Shapiro (1837-1921), a great Lithuanian rosh yeshiva, who was also the son-in-law of the Netzi’v, and the father-in-law of Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik.
