Tab, (today, Tabi járás, Somogy County): 1840-1942

Tab had a Jewish community beginning in the 18th century. Its large synagogue was built in 1762. In the 1853 census, 625 residents were Jewish. At the eve of WWII its Jewish population numbered approximately 2000. Notable rabbis of this community include Rabbi Wolf Abeles and his grandson Rabbi Wolf Breuer, who published his grandfather’s writings in Nachalath Binyamin (Paks, 1889).
