Each page of this manuscript is a Kel Maleh prayer. Each is finely composed in calligraphic hands often with artistic borders and stylistic decorations. These memorial entries are for dozens of men and women from the community. Also includes a memorial for Empress Elisabeth Amalie Eugenie (d. 1898), wife of Emperor Franz Josef I of Austro-Hungary. Mehala is a neighborhood in Temesvár, the third largest city in Romania. Also known as Temeschburg or Timişoara, it is located in the Banat region, in the southwestern part of the country. The origin of the Jewish community there date back to the Ottoman period in the 17th century, and thus there were parallel Sephardic and Ashkenazic communities. By the mid-19th century both Neolog and Orthodox communities thrived. It remained under Hungarian rule until 1918. See https://yivoencyclopedia.org/article.aspx/Timisoara.
