Shortly after the Nazis rose to power, Jews were banned from participating in German sports leaguess, resulting in growing interest and membership in Jewish only sports clus. With over 50,000 active members by 1935, these clubs served an important role in seeking to preserve the dignity of the Jews in Nazi-governed Germany.
