The author, described in the approbations as an elderly Darshan who through his oratory caused many people to repent, was known as the Maggid of Rotzki and was one of the few Darshanim permitted to eulogize the Vilna Gaon. The eulogy, delivered in Vilna, is entitled Hesped Gaon Yisrael (ff. 74b-79b).
