German-born Dr. Moses Mielziner (1828-1903) was rabbi in Copenhagen, Denmark, before taking up the call in 1865 to serve as rabbi of New York's Congregation Anshei Chesed. In 1879 he was offered the position of Professor of Talmud and Rabbinical Literature at Hebrew Union College, Cincinnati and from 1900 until his death, was President of the institution. The present work, Mielziner’s first published, would later appear in English as ‘Slavery Among the Ancient Hebrews.’
