A Books published towards the beginning of the era of Jewish Emancipation in Germany, which was characterized by an onslaught of anti-Semitic publications seeking to disenfranchise the Jew. Graetz (Vol. V, Ch. XI) records that the majority of these anti-Semitic writings were anonymously published. Their campaign had the effect of slowing down the movement for emancipation; for Jews did not receive legal equality in Germany until 1869.
