Cities colored in red, aside from Hebron which may have been missed by the colorist. A flat-topped Mount Tabor sits prominently between the Carmel and Sea of Galilee, Beersheba, to the north of Gaza, is just east of the coast. This is one of ten maps in Bünting's Itinerarium Sacrae Scripturae, first published in 1581, in which the author, rewrote the Bible as an illustrated travel book. Other maps in the series attest to Bünting's imaginative approach to cartography, in which he depicts the the world in the form of a cloverleaf (with Jerusalem at its center), Europe as the Queen of the World, and Asia as a Pegasus.
